GIVEAWAY: Direction of PR Winner!

Friday, September 25th, 2009

Last week, we asked for your thoughts on the direction of PR — the next “big thing,” if you will.  We’ve reviewed your responses and are happy to announce the winner of the Garmin 265 WT giveaway, Mike Toomey of SciTech Marketing.  His winning entry is below.  Congratulations, Mike!

“Odd as it may seem, the next big thing will be brutal honesty — with clients — and with editors and freelancers.  Relationships on social sites are fine, but editors demand freelancers vet sources honestly for their relevance and integrity.  No amount of socializing replaces either one.  When a client feels they deserve coverage we have to honestly evaluate if there’s merit to gain coverage.  We should be sure to say if there is or isn’t merit.  Too often we may want to show we know all the connections, what media to contact them by, and what we’ve been assigned to pitch.  But we must never forget a targeted approach matched to the exact media market and vetted sources can never be replaced by rosy cheeked people looking to talk about someone’s social page.  “Obfuscation pitching” just wastes a journalist’s precious time and aggravates people more than impresses them.”

GIVEAWAY: Winning Cheesecake Entries Announced

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

Happy National Cheesecake Day!

To celebrate, we asked you to tell us which cheesecake most matches your personality for your chance to receive Cheesecake Factory cheesecake, courtesy of The Decoder.  Read the winning entries below!

Steve Polilli of SAS Institute, Inc. is most like a marble cheesecake in a yin and yang kind of way. “I’ve got equal parts in my personality of mellowness and fire, swirled together to make an especially unique treat.”  Steve, one marble cheesecake coming your way.  Why be black or white when you can be a swirl?

Lisa Eskey of Sterling Communications is actually unlike her favorite flavor:  pumpkin pecan cheesecake.  Unlike Lisa’s favorite flavor, she is available all year round to help reporters find the resources they need (look at you, Miss PR thing).  Why does Lisa love pumpkin pecan so much?  Childhood memories and family!  Hello… isn’t that why we all love it?  Bon appetite!

And finally, last but not least, Traci King from Fujitsu Network Communications most matches key lime.  Tangy, but sweet at the same time.

Thanks to all who submitted!  Check back for next month’s giveaway.
